Do you know there are various stages of freedom?" The girl hesitated, the elder who asked the question first helped her. "We have the freedom to choose our Gods. One day you feel like worshipping Meenakshi and the next day you feel like worshipping Krishna. Or, you may choose to not worship at all. In Abrahamic religions, people don't have that freedom." "Does it mean there are no atheists in Islam or Christianity?" asked the girl. "Yes, for example, the punishment for apostates is death in Islam," said the elder.  சில வருடங்களாக மொழிபெயர்ப்பில் இறங்கியுள்ளதால் நண்பர் ஒருவர் என்னிடம் இந்தக் கேள்வியைக் கேட்டார். “’Money laundering’ என்பதற்கு தமிழில் பெரும்பாலும் பண மோசடி என்றே மொழிபெயர்க்கின்றனர்.  இதை மோசடி என்று சொல்ல முடியாது; சட்டவிரோதமாக ஈட்டிய பணத்தை சட்டபூர்வ பணமாகக் காட்டுவது தான் ’Money laundering’.   இதற்கு இணையான செயல்கள் தான் திராவிடக் கட்சிக்காரக்கள் செய்யாத ஒன்றைச் செய்ததாக நம்ப வைப்பது; இல்லாத ஒன்றை இருப்பதாகக் கட்டமைப்பது போன்றவை.  இவை எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் பொறுத்தமாக தமிழில் என்ன சொல்/உவமை இருக்கிறது? இவற்றிற்கு சரியான தமிழ்ப்பதம் இருக்கிறதா?”  சில நிமிடம் யோசித்துவிட்டு  - ”வடிவேலு, கவுண்டமணி, செந்தில், விவேக் டயலாக் கிடைத்தால் கூட பரவாயில்லை.  உதாரணத்திற்கு, "ஸ்டிக்கர் ஒட்டுவது" - நன்றாக உள்ளது; ஆனால் பொய்யை உண்மையாக்கும் செயலை அது சுட்டவில்ல” என்றார். இயல்பிலிருந்து தமிழ் நாடு எவ்வளவு விலகியுள்ளது என்பதற்கு இது அத்தாட்சி.  அன்றாட வாழ்வில் காணும் விஷயங்களை உவமைகளாக, பழமொழிகளாகக் கூறுவது வழக்கம்.  பல புத்தகங்கள் வெளிவந்துள்ளன, கிவாஜ பத...
