Google Pack

-
It is a common problem that Google tries to solve. The solution is probably not a high-tech one, but no doubt it is useful.

Sometime last year, there was a hard-disk crash on my computer. I began restoring the OS and other basic software; then I realized how much of a problem it is to keep your computer up-to-date. Without the latest service packs, firewalls and anti-virus software, it took lessthan five minutes for a trojan to get to my machine. I ended up spending a few nights on cleaning up my machine, download require software and their service packs.

I pride myself as someone fairly informed on the problems and solutions on a Windows system. I used to think that it must be a terrible experience for a non-computer savvy person to keep a computer up-to-date in this age of trojans and viruses. I hope Google Pack would help such technology challanged people.

Deepak Amin's article that inspired many to return to India

-
For the sake of quick reference, I post this much read article in my blog.  The person who wrote this was Deepak Amin - by boss at vJungle and Indicus.  It was written sometime before 1998 - that was when I decided to return to India and contacted him. "A quick background: I went to the US many moons ago (1987 to be precise) seeking the proverbial American Experience trudging the standard route of undergrad in IIT, postgrad in the US, summer job,H1, job in software co., Mexico for visa, etc. You know the schpiel. Worked at Microsoft for 6 years and decided to return to Bharatland in late 1995. Set up www.indicus.com and started churning out code from Mumbai. Been at it for about a year now. Returning to India: Having come back and ensconced myself very comfortably into India, and having met several others who have tried this, some successfully and some others not so successfully, I'd like to aver that there is one and only one thing that you need to have to pack your bags and ...

What does lineage stand for?

-
Question: Beyond inheritance (including legal aspects), social & cultural identity, DNA (biological clarity), succession, and continuity what lineage stands for? Answer: Let me try to explain with personal experience and insight.  Your mileage may vary. I perform 'Tharpanam' on Amavasya and other prescribed days.  While performing it, I try to recollect the ancestor's face, whom I have seen or have seen their pictures.  It is considered such rituals are performed to please the ancestors.  I do not attach much importance to that perspective.  I perform them because I want to.  I realized that they are for my own benefit.  How?  Here it goes. On performing the rituals over a few years, I get to remember the qualities of my ancestors.  Either I am lucky that I could see only their good qualities, or I do not have any memory of their bad qualities.  I also noticed that the qualities I see in them are also present in me at some point...

Is there a thing that doesn't exist?

-
"Is there a thing that doesn't exist?" was the question my son Krishna asked me last night. It has been his habit to listen to my ramblings before he goes to sleep. His point is - my voice gives him good sleep. And I see the reason on why I didn't become a teacher. Coming back to his question - it made me happy, for he asked a difficult question. It made me happier as I can answer this one to my satisfaction. So, I started. "The answer in a single word is No. But let me explain. We perceive everything through our minds. Thousands of inputs from the sensory organs and a memory help our mind make sense out of what the eyes see, ears hear etc. So, to perceive something, the mind must be present. That is the basic premise. To answer your question, we must first define what that "thing" is (that doesn't exist). You can define that thing as something not in your memory. For example, a creature with three legs, four arms, eight eyes and three ...
